Short Film : S.O.S. Character Art

video

Here is a concept, final rendered images and an animated turn around of the main character for my short film S.O.S. .This character had a unique rigging/modeling challenge, I needed him to grow old, so I rigged him so you can animate him aging. At the top is an image showing the old and young versions. The character is a fairly straight forward rig with full face rig for dialog, I also wanted to take on the challenge of cloth simulation with this project, so his jacket is cloth simulated to give it a more natural look when animated.

Short Film : S.O.S. Visual Development

These images are various sketches, boards and renders I used as visual development for my short film S.O.S. I worked hard to create an interesting environment with an intense dramatic feel. Light played an important role both in the story and feel of the film. Matching the final look/render of the film to the boards and concepts was a challenge that I enjoyed and am hoping to continue working in Visual Development/lighting.

A day at the Zoo

The other week I had the chance to get to the zoo and sketch some animals. I went with Emma, Randeep and Matty K, it was a perfect day. It felt good to put pencil to paper after a long year of mucking on the computer.

Cheers.

Tapu the terrible

Here are also some rendered test images of our character Tapu and a few of his poses. Just like Mr. Haka, he employs approx. 45 blend shapes. These allow us to combine any number and combinations of the blendshapes to come up with and animate complex facial performance.

The many faces of Mr. Haka

Here are a few rendered test examples of Haka and his face set up. There are about 40+ blendshapes employed in his face to create these and pretty much any other expression.

Meet Mr. Haka

Hello everyone! Here are a few test I did the other night for my character Haka. He is part of our(labRats) film "Catch of the day." These are renders to see how the character looking in different poses. I have used them to find a few problems in the rigs of the characters. I also wanted to see what Haka would look like with one of the fishes(Farrukh is currently working on the fish in the picture.) He also does have some clothes but they are cloth objects and need to be set up and simulated, and that will come later, in the mean time pardon the nudie shots. :)

C+C always welcome!

Young Tapu.

Here is the first glimpse of one of the characters that I am working on for my film. This is Tapu, he only has a rough pass of his skinning and texture. These tests are to trouble shoot his skinning and work out any kinks. The same for the textures; the close of of his face is an example of how subsurface scattering can work. The amount of SSS is pushed to an extreme to show how it allows the model to look as if light is passing though it. (two of poses done by Dom and Evan)
